Each year Kelley gives her design team the opportunity to choose a scripture, quote or sentiment to be made into a stamp and included in a stamp set. This year I chose a sentiment that has had special meaning in our family for several years now. After one of my Grandfather's died, our son bought a sweet garden stepping stone with this sentiment carved into it, along with my Grandfather's name. He gave it to my Grandma and she treasured it in her beautiful flower garden until she passed away
on her 92nd birthday in 2012.
Here is the set that includes my stamp choice:
I made a sympathy card and then two projects that memorialize my Dad who passed away last November. I have experienced the pain that losing a loved one brings. But I had no idea how heartbroken I would be when my Daddy died. Logically I know he is with the Lord and is no longer suffering. But my heart just can't seem to heal. I miss him so much! So, it was somewhat therapeutic to create these two projects memorializing my Dad using a sentiment that had also memorialized my Grandfather.
For the sympathy card, I embossed a frame with Spellbinders dies. I stamped the sentiment and cut it out with an
ODBD Custom Antique Labels and Borders die. I used foam tape to adhere it to the card base. I cut out the swirl with the
ODBD Fancy Foliage dies and trimmed it into several pieces to tuck in behind the sentiment. A sweet and simple sympathy card. Below shows the inside where you can see I used an
ODBD Beautiful Borders die and a sympathy sentiment from a previous release called
All Occasion Sentiments.
And here is the ornament and the frame I created:
I wish I could have gotten better photos to share! I had a hard time not getting the glare!
Since I wanted these projects to be masculine, I tried to keep things simple.
The ornament was purchased at Michael's and I cut a circle frame with a Spellbinders circle and the
ODBD Custom Circle Ornament Dies. I kind of stippled white paint onto the ornament and frames before I assembled everything. I stamped the sentiment on the same type of photo paper that I used to print Daddy's picture. Then I cut out the shape using the
ODBD Custom Ornate Borders and Flower dies and hand wrote his name and his birth/death years. I added some leaves from the new
Zinnia and Leaves dies.
The picture frame was also from Michael's. I painted it with brown paint and then added lots of miscellaneous buttons. The heart button has some twine threaded through it. I stamped the sentiment on photo paper again and cut it out with the
ODBD Custom Antique Labels and Borders dies. I popped it up with foam tape and added seam binding, more twine and another button!
We thank you all so much for helping to make
ODBD a success!
